Spanish Honor Society
The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) promotes the study and teaching of the Spanish and Portuguese languages and their corresponding Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian and other related literatures and cultures at all levels of education.
In our local chapter in Hackettstown High School, students have the opportunity to improve upon their Spanish and participate in several activities such as fundraisers, tutoring for Spanish I and II, community outreach and other activities to foster school spirit.
The requirements to join include having successfully completed Spanish III and maintained an A. Students meet once or twice a month depending on the month and the activities involved. Students are required to avail themselves for 5 hours of tutoring which takes place in the library after school. In addition, students are expected to participate in at least 80% of the meetings and contribute positively to the growth of the program.
