Math Honor Society
Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, was formed in 1957 at the University of Oklahoma. We are dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students. Currently, more than 100,000 students are Mu Alpha Theta members at more than 2,420 schools in the United States and in 23 foreign countries.
Qualifications:
- Each member is classified as a junior or senior at HHS.
- Each member must have and maintain an unweighted 90% average in their mathematics class.
- Each Junior member must have completed two honors-level math courses and be enrolled in an upper-level math course.
- Each Senior member must have completed three honors-level math courses and be enrolled in an upper-level math course.
Students eligible for Mu Alpha Theta will receive a letter stating the above qualification and an invitation. Our induction ceremony will be held in November to welcome new members.
Students will be required to attend meetings (1 per month during FLEX) and participate in volunteer hours (a minimum of 3 hours). Students must maintain their 90% unweighted math grade and the above to graduate with honors and receive their graduation cord.
Members participate in math competitions, provide math tutoring to students at the high school and surrounding schools, and work to promote math in the community. We meet in room B22 on the second Tuesday of the month.
