This video serves to provide a brief overview of what we will be studying in World History. It includes a review of the course topic syllabus for all of my World History classes.

hey there everybody this is mistress out and I'm just going to provide you with a brief overview of what you guys have to expect an honors world history in the coming school year for the 2023-2024 school year at this point if you are an incoming freshman you have to take three required history courses freshman year we offer world history your sophomore year we require you to take us history and then your junior year US History to now we do offer a number of electives for you guys we also offer AP courses for you and the in the realm of your core classes are those always an option for you but for now if you're looking at this most likely you've signed up for honor's world and I can take a brief moment here to review some of the course popex now getting normally this is something that we would do on move up day where you come up and run through your sketch when you get to meet your teachers but that being not going to happen this year we're just going to do this via video so I guess if you look at the very top there you see my contact information just respond side note Any teacher that you will have an in the high school you can email them at with their first initial last name at hackettstown.org Premier the artist out at hackettstown.org you'll see that this is a tentative course overview obviously with the lot of things have changed the course topics we intend to get through I go every everything starting with the government which will be your your summer assignment and all the way up through the global politics since 9/11 so that is our aim that is whether or not we get there how we get there depends upon you know what world events at this point so quick run through though of course topics I can't this is world history I think if you just took a macrocosm view of that lifts hopics you'll see that destroys a eurocentric of course that's probably going to change very soon it's not that we don't discover of discuss other civilizations Eastern civilization in African civilization in mesoamerica but we usually do in the context of how they interact with European civilization really beginning in the middle ages and then through the Renaissance and reformation and Age of Exploration there are many of these topics especially when you see the second column there with the Industrial Revolution the age of Imperialism World War 1 over to you cover these topics also in horses like US History one and US History to you simply do we cover probably approximately Maybe 2500 years of world history all different cultures all different civilizations we do this both chronologically and thematically so you'll see some sense of kind of working our way through timeline but the reality is a lot of the things that we study or occurring at the same time if you look at the topics of Renaissance Reformation exploration age of absolute monarchy Scientific Revolution all of those things are happening at the same I'm with the steam in the park behind the scenes at the Renaissance and the new way that people are looking at the world so I'm not going to go through all the different topics you can look at those yourself was waiting you learning about and what I'd like to do is just kind of work away down here you'll see that a lot of topics that we studied coincide with current event right now in your world that mirror the topics that we're going to be talking about I mean how could you not draw a comparison between the pandemic of the coronavirus covid-19 with what happened in the Middle Ages and the spread of the black where the Bubonic plague so you know it's always been kind of an upside-down to do that so question for a lot of history toonces what does this have to do with me right now to find out things that were studying that happened 500 years ago it's amazing the correlations you can draw because one constant time in the March the time you know license changed the pace of life changes that we are in the same today as we were 500,000 so quickly talkin about the course and reading assessments you'll see that each department in the school is different when it comes to how you are graded as percentages are weighted I believe and I could be wrong right this time Levi in your math classes your assessment about 95% whereas your your traditional 20% you spell things like homework and things like that or 5% we all have a reason for doing that but will see that no matter what history course you take World US 1 us to doesn't matter what level the waiting to be the same 85% of your grade as we waited for assess whether that's a quiz unit Asta major project your paper in 15% worse things like homework your preparation presentation and your your midterm and final exam okay I'm sorry midterm exams are our way to a separately from this what to do whether you're a lover of history or a person is liking I've never been good at it and we want you to come in prepared we want you to participate I think that the people who who generally don't like history's most of those people who don't participate in and kind of remain on the sidelines and so I think the more you participate that the more productive you are and the more you have an in the class itself we want you to submit your assignments on time one of the things that I preached you guys's is learning how to budget your time well come in the high school live you're bouncing Sports near academics regulars sometimes working in it home in in that more so now in this age of pandemic than ever before so the better you budget your time maintain a notebook or your own maybe soon agenda book it is important that you come to class prepared with writing materials and because there are notes a lot of times I'll give you a course outlines are topic outline unit outline so you can guide you in your note-taking but a lot of times you have to take free hand notes so I have to take proper care of your textbooks your equipment. Things like that and some very simple rules over and over again what's the problem you got to come to class on time and he got to come prepared coming to class on time does it mean showing up and then saying oh I forgot my textbook can I go back to my locker you're stuck late so you know come in vpro there's always a Grace. The first week or two of school but then wants to know your schedule and the layout tool and it's imperative that you show up on time and be prepared we expect you to be attentive in class be respectful to not only South roster and you'll get that due respect in return and we simply want you to be responsible it's important that we all work together I think we're learning that more and more now that we respect each other you know that's Starts Now why people question how do we do that how we overcome Smith problems in society it comes down to starting right now so we can do that inside a classroom can do that in society I would like to read through the other things call posti's on the website one of the others I would like to go over with you guys is the summer assessment and I'm going to bring this up right now and when you go online and you go to the high school website there are links to the different summer assignments and this is what's going to look like when you click on the history link you'll see history summer assignment 2020 the main singer please print out complete the summer assignment for the course you're scheduled to take there for you guys for honors world history scroll down and you click on honors world history when you do that it'll take you to this page right three different things you can. You don't necessarily have to print out the the link worksheets you're going to find out that one of the important topics that we start with the very first week is systems of government this is an ongoing theme throughout the course of world history a how we govern people in and why governments are set up and I think you're seeing governments around the world right now even our own being challenged already being challenging and people want a voice in so we see this time and time again going all the way back to ancient Greece and Rome up through the present day so you can see that you are provided with a PowerPoint all types of government and the worksheet that you will have to pronounce right here called systems of government and you simply it's very simple you I would say watch the video click on his video links first and they will have to walk you through the different systems of government that are out there and then the last direction right here says the completed work he will earn you 25 points what we will do is when after we've reviewed your summer assignment your complete the assignment we will have a 50-point assessment the second week of class so it's it's pretty big chunk your gray coming right off the bat though take your time make sure you understand what you doing here this is broken down very well actually frontside and backside here you'll see that as you scroll down this is actually the front and back of one paper okay timer that you have any questions you can always email me throughout the summer I do check my email sporadically so shoot me an email and we'll go from there all right I can't wait to see you guys in the fall and I hope to see you face to face in the fall I want to go through this video thing again but we'll save and we will adapt and we will overcome so have a great summer and looking forward to seeing you meeting you in the fall
