Step Two: Explore Careers & College Majors

Sometimes you have to work backwards.  Knowing what you want to be doing for your career will identify what major you should be studying in college.  
 
  • What are your interests & strengths?
  • What kids of careers are out there for you?
  • What education or training do you need for that career?
Learning about yourself and connecting your strengths and interest to a career is an important step.  CollegeBoard has a free Career Finder tool that you can use.
 
You'll need to create an account if you haven't already done so.  Important reminder: use the same email for CollegeBoard as you plan to use for all of your college applications, scholarships, financial aid, etc.
 
Once you have a broad idea of the career that you want to go into, you'll now need to look at what college majors will get you that job.  CollegeBoard has a free Majors Search tool that you can use.

Naviance is a software used by students to explore college and career information.  The software is used extensively during the sophomore, junior, and senior year.  Each student has their own log on credentials for the software.
